From The Rif Mountains To The Mediterranean Coast

Chefchaouen is the perfect site for hiking tours in the neighborhood. ITINERARIES

DAY 1: TANGIER -CHEFCHAOUEN

Welcome at Tangier’s airport/port, and then transfer to Chefchaouen, guided tour in the Medina. Half board accommodation in Casa Hassan or similar hotel.

DAY 2: CHEFCHAOUEN-TISSOUKA-ZAOUIYA HABTENNE

Early in the morning we start our trek to Talassemtane Park accompanied by guide and mules, the hike lasts 4 hours. Along the rocky path of Tissouka Mountain, you will have a broad view of Chefchaouen city and the beginning of the Oued Laou valley with its typical agricultural landscapes. You will see the traditional dwellings of the Rif’s villages. We arrive at the Zaouiya village and finally to Talassemtane guesthouse at the end of the trek. DAY 3 : ZAOUIYA-CAVE BAROUD

Early in the morning a traditional breakfast, after that we continue our hike on the way to Jbel Lakrra, the highest summit of the province 2159m. We stop at Cave Baroud, a wonderful place for camping. We will have the chance to see the macaques in the area. Picnic lunch will be served and then exploring the surrounding. Dinner and overnight in cave Baroud at Jbel Lakraa meadow.

DAY 4: CAVE BAROUD-SOMMET JBEL LAKRAA-PLACA D’ESPAGNE

Breakfast and we continue towards Mount Lakraa summit; superb panoramic view: Mediterranean coast, fir trees and different type of vegetation. Jbel Lakraa means “Bold Mount “. The cold winter and the wind prevented the growth of shrub vegetation in its summit. However, slopes are occupied by magnificent fir trees. We set out to Plaça d’Espagne, a place of rest and observation by excellence and where we take lunch and install our tents. The trek lasts 6 h. Night and dinner in campground under the fir trees…

DAY 5 : PLACA D’ESPAGNE – VILLAGES OF TALASSEMTANE PARK

Breakfasts then we continue our exploration of the Park and its villages. We visit Douar Abu Bnar that is known for his marabou “Sidi Jellal”. In this valley you will discover beautiful scenery of the mountains and have panoramic view of the fir forest (more than 2000 hectares). We arrive to a village at the heart of the mountains where we will spend the night with a rural family in full board accommodation.

DAY 6 : VILLAGES OF TALASSEMTANE

After breakfast we continue the hike passing through Taria village. Goat rearing is a main agricultural activity of this village. It’s also characterized by its agricultural terrace, traditional dwellings and presence of many water mills. Finally after 6 hours walk we arrive to family house where you will have dinner and sleep in a refuge

DAY 7: IMEZZAR- OUSELAF- PONT DE DIEU AKCHOUR

We leave after breakfast, overlooking fir trees (Abies maroccana) Jbel Tissouka and Jbel Lakraa. You continue towards Imizzar village and cross Ain Danou source which comes out of Oued Farda. It is a major resurgence of water that comprises the entry of a cave of the same name. Oued Farda is a small torrential stream characteristic of the Rif that creates refreshing water excursions.
We finally find God’s Bridge, a true natural and spiritual curiosity. The bridge of God is a huge natural arch shaped over time by Oued Farda. We will take our lunch at the bridge of God, and then we continue towards Douar Ouslaf where you can discover the traditional surroundings. Finally we reach Akchour where we spend the night in half board accommodation in a refuge.

DAY 8: AKCHOUR-CASCADE OUED FARD- AKCHOUR

Today’s hike will be the discovery of the waterfalls of Akchour, a hidden treasure in the heart of the Rif Mountains. After 4 hours of walk, we will take lunch on Oued Farda River’s boards. We return back to Akchour after 3 hours trek; half board accommodation in a rural house.

DAY 9 : AKCHOUR-OUED LAOU-CHEFCHAOUEN

Breakfast and then we drive to the Mediterranean coast. Lunch will be in a local restaurant in Oued Laou. Free time on the beach then transfer to Chefchaouen. Half board accommodation in a charming Guesthouse.

DAY 10 / CHEFCHAOUEN – TANGER

Breakfast at the hotel and then transfer to Tangier
